In the bright Louisiana sun, you may be able to spot:

Missing, cracked, or lifted shingles
Dark or discolored areas
Shingles that look uneven or out of place
Rust around flashing or exposed metal
Sagging areas along the roofline
Damaged vents or pipe flashing
Tree limbs rubbing against the roof

And don’t forget to look in your gutters. Finding an unusual amount of roofing granules in your gutters can sometimes be a sign that your shingles are aging or losing their protective surface.

None of these automatically means you need a new roof. That’s the important part. A professional inspection can help determine whether you’re looking at normal wear, a repairable issue, or damage that needs more serious attention.

The Problem With “It’s Not Leaking Yet”

One of the biggest roofing misconceptions is that a roof isn’t a problem until water starts coming through the ceiling. Around Southeast Louisiana, that’s a risky assumption.

Downspouts that are clogged or disconnected
Gutters pulling away from the fascia
Excessive granules collecting in the gutter

Your gutters may not technically be part of the roof, but they’re an important part of the system that protects your home from water.
